Swaps for the Red #3 goodies you're throwing out this week
🍗 Today’s Nugget
Did ya’ll see red #3 food dye has officially been banned by the FDA? This is fantastic news for everyone, but especially health nuts like me.
This week I wanted to share why this news matters, what to look for on food labels and what to stock up on now that eyes are open to this totally pointless / potentially harmful ingredient.

What it might cause:
Thyroid tumors
Hyperactivity (especially in children)
Allergic reactions
Possible neurological effects
What it’s in:
Hint: look for "Red 3," "FD&C Red No. 3" or "erythrosine" on ingredient lists.
Candy/sweets- peeps, sweetarts, ring pops, nerds, fruit snacks, marshmallows, maraschino cherries, sprinkles
Baked goods particularly in grocery store bakeries- cakes, cookies, frostings, toaster pastries
Drinks- some sodas and juices, flavored drinks, sports drinks
Frozen treats- yogurt, ice cream, popsicles
Cereals- almost any brightly colored brand
BABY FOOD- look closely at labels on anything red/orange
Dye-free options:
There are tons, but these are a few of my faves.
Yum Earth gummies
Miss Jones or Simple Mills cake frosting
Alden’s, 365 (aka Whole Foods) or Haagen Dazs ice cream
Three Wishes or 365 cereals
Happy Family, 365 or Once Upon a Farm baby food
Kickstart your healthy routine
