2 Cold + flu season diet tricks for less mucus š¤¢
š Todayās Nugget
āTis the seasonā¦ for coughing and endless mucus, am I right?! These two simple little diet tricks can help you breathe easier while recovering, especially if you have a pulmonary condition like asthma or COPD.
Cut waaaay back on carbs.
The metabolic process of digesting carbs results in CO2 production which puts lungs to work. Give them a break by basing meals around protein, fat and veggies until symptoms improveāor forever, really.
Eat more salt.
Salt helps break up mucus, so donāt be afraid of having a little extra sodium in some chicken soup (sans noodles), almond flour crackers or sprinkled on your meals here and there. And of course donāt forget to drink plenty of water while youāre at it to keep that dreadful green sludge as thin as possible.
A few low carb + salty ideas:
Amyās Kitchen veggie soups (throw some rotisserie chicken in for protein)
Pickles
Simple Mills almond flour crackers
Omelets topped with salted tomato slices
Siete chips
Bone broth
